Since the early 90s, knowledge and comprehension of the Nano-world has grown exponentially. Despite this early growth in the 90s however, it is only very recently that nanotechnology has officially been recognized as the leading technology of the 21st century. At this crucial moment, while nanotechnology is just beginning to reach maturity, it is vitally important that nano-scientists have a forum where they can meet to discuss up-to-the-minute developments in this state-of-the-art research. That is why we have chosen to present NanoTech Insight’05 as one such occasion for scholars to come together and to gain a deeper insight from one another into the intriguing aspects of the Nano-world.

The broad scope of this meeting is meant to emphasize the intrinsic multidisciplinary nature of nanotechnology. Chemists, Biologists, Physicists, and Engineers are all invited to participate in this meeting to present and discuss the current state of research related to nanotechnology. As a burgeoning new field, young scientists and students, and female researchers in particular, are strongly encouraged to participate; it is hoped that by involvement in such a meeting young researchers, under the guidance of leading scientists, will be inspired and assisted to understand, seek, and enhance the goals of nanotechnology.

With this in mind, one of the foremost goals of this meeting is to attract the attention of research communities and officials of developing countries to the importance of this field and to draw their attention to the importance of cutting-edge research and technologies for development. Our aim is to expose as many young researchers from the developing world as possible to the leading researchers in this field. We also aim to promote the participation of female researchers. As a new and rapidly developing science with many applications, nanoscience offers many great promises for the future. We, the organizers of NanoTech Insight, hope that this promised future will be one that all human communities can share.

This conference is an offshoot of the International Conference on Solar Energy and Applied Photochemistry. The Solar conference has been successfully organised in Egypt by the Photoenergy Center of Ain Shams University since 1991. Solar'05 is planned to take place in conjunction with the NanoTech Insight conference.
