Prof. Amarnath Maitra (born in February 1943) is currently at the University of Delhi. M.Sc. in Chemistry from Calcutta University in 1964 and Ph.D. from Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 1971. Joined Delhi University in 1972. His current research areas are on ceramic nanoparticles, targeted drug delivery and delivery of genetic materials. Dr Maitra has supervised the Ph.D. works of about 37 students and published more than 120 papers in international journals of repute. He has eleven Indian Patents, five US patents and one each of UK and Japan patents on drug and gene delivery. Five technologies of Dr Maitra have been transferred to industry including one to US based pharmaceutical industry. He is associated with Indian Nanoscience and technology initiative and other nanotechnology based activities of the country. Prof Maitra is fellow of the Indian National Science Academy and recipient of MRSI and other several awards from India and abroad.
