Dr. Bin Chen obtained her PhD in chemistry from Penn State University in 1997. She is a principle investigator working at SETI institute/NASA Ames Research Center. She has become the Chief Scientist for Modus Nanotechnology, Inc in 2006. Dr. Chen received several awards including NASA TIGER award for innovative contributions in nanotechnology. She has been profiled in Dekker Encyclopedia of Nananoscience and Nanotechnology. Dr. Chen has led several programs to apply nanotechnology to Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) spectroscopy sensing, solar energy harvesting and conversion, hydrogen storage in fuel cell technology, and multifunctional composites for radiation shielding in space technology. She has broad interests in physical properties and applications of nanomaterials including carbon nanotubes, carbon nanotube polymer composites, semiconducting metal oxide nanowires.
