On lien from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Dr. D. D. Sarma at present holds the position of MLS Chair Professor of Physics at Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Calcutta and is also the Chairman of the newly established Centre for Advanced Materials there.
With more than 300 scientific papers and several thousands of citations, he is one of the most recognised scientists of India working in the field of materials, with specialisations in nanomaterials, strongly correlated materials and conducting polymers. He is an elected member of all three national Academies in India and is a recipient of a large number of national and international awards and recognitions. He is in the Editorial Advisory Board of several journals and book series, such as Journal Physical Chemistry, Solid State Communications, Journal of Electron Spectroscopy and Advances in Condensed Matter Sciences.
